3952. parousia
parousia: a presence, a coming
Original Word: παρουσία, ας, ἡ
Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine
Transliteration: parousia
Phonetic Spelling: (par-oo-see'-ah)

3952 parousía (from parōn, "be present, arrive to enter into a situation") – properly, coming, especially the arrival of the owner who alone can deal with a situation (cf. LS). 3952 (parousía) is a "technical term with reference to the visit of a king or some other official, 'a royal visit' " (Souter) – "hence, in the NT, specifically of the Advent or Parousia of Christ" (A-S).

[3952 (parousía) is "used in the east as a technical expression for the royal visit of a king, or emperor. The word means literally 'the being beside,' thus, 'the personal presence' " (K. Wuest, 3, Bypaths, 33).]

From  http://www.parousiaband.com/parousia "Parousia" In Scripture

Many of you have asked us what "Parousia" means. To help you to better understand, here is a website we found that explains the meaning of the Greek word, “Parousia,” much better than we can put into words.

We encourage everyone to prayerfully conduct his/her own search for the full meaning of this word, as the Lord is more than able to lead and direct your own understanding by His Holy Spirit. We are not endorsing this website and all of its contents, nor do we state that we agree entirely to all that is found there; it is simply a link that explains “Parousia” more fully than we can, and God can give the reader his/her own revelation in its beautiful meaning as He guides you in your search.

Also, we are not affiliated with any particular doctrines associated with this word. It is a beautiful word, and is a blessed hope for us all, as Believers and followers of Jesus Christ, and the Word Living God.

Following are some scriptures where Parousia is used in the Bible (we have placed the Greek word in the stead of the English one in each verse where it is found), and for those of you that read a Scofield Study Bible, you will find "Parousia" referenced within his commentary notes:

Matt. 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy parousia, and of the end of the world?

Matt. 24:27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the parousia of the Son of man be.

Matt. 24:37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the parousia of the Son of man be.

Matt. 24:39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the parousia of the Son of man be.

1Cor. 15:23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his parousia.

1Thess 2:19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his parousia?

1Thess 3:13 To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the parousia of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

1Thess. 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the parousia of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

1Thess. 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the parousia of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2Thess. 2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the parousia of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him

2Thess. 2:8,9 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his parousia: Even him, whose parousia is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders

James 5:7,8 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the parousia of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the parousia of the Lord draweth nigh.

2Peter 1:16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and parousia of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

2Peter 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his parousia? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation

2Peter 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the parousia of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

1John 2:28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his parousia.

Again, Lord bless you all, and we sincerely hope that we may always be a blessing and a tool of God to aid and encourage people in their walk as they search God’s Word with open minds and willing hearts. Enjoy the journey!
