PART ONE

Descendants of Noah - Shem, Ham & Japheth

Genesis 11
verse 10 These are the records of the generations of Shem [from whom Abraham descended]. Shem was a hundred years old when he became the father of Arpachshad, two years after the flood.

There were 9 generations from Shem and Abram was the tenth generation since the days of Noah.

Noah - Shem - Arpachshad - Shelah - Eber - Peleg - Reu - Serug - Nahor - Terah - Abram, Nahor and Haran <-firstborn and was father of Lot

verse 31 Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran, his grandson, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went out together to go from Ur of the Chaldeans into the land of Canaan; but when they came to Haran [about five hundred and fifty miles northwest of Ur], they settled there.

Genesis 12 see Part Two

Genesis 13
Abram and lot go their separate ways

Genesis 14
Abraham rescues Lot and defeats 4 enemy kings and kingdoms and rescues 5 'friendly' ally kingdoms and takes the spoil of victory with 318 men! It was lot, his nephew that was his motive for asking and finding divine deliverance. Then Melchizzadek, King and high Priest  of Salem appeared bringing Bread & Wine and Abraham responded by 'tithing' 1/10th of all the spoils of war and did war no more! From then on The Lord dd all the judgment and warfare - from heaven! He intervened with dreams, angels, visions and other supernatural revelations blessing those who blessed his family and brought destruction on those who refused him or his people. In Abrahams life and the life of his sons, Isaac and Ishmael and Jacob and Esau we see the honor of god for the people He loves by covenant or agreements until the days of Moses, David, ELijah and the 1st Coming of the Word made Flesh - God become man giving Him the name Jesus!

Abram and Melchizedek

17 Then after Abram’s return from the defeat (slaughter) of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley).

18 [c]Melchizedek king of Salem (ancient Jerusalem) brought out bread and wine [for them]; he was the priest of [d]God Most High. 19 And Melchizedek blessed Abram and said,

“Blessed (joyful, favored) be Abram by God Most High,
Creator and Possessor of heaven and earth;

20 And blessed, praised, and glorified be God Most High,
Who has given your enemies into your hand.”

And Abram gave him a tenth of all [the treasure he had taken in battle].

Abram Journeys to the Negev then to Egypt Blessed but Deceptive

Genesis Chapter 12

Now [in Haran] the Lord had said to Abram,

“Go away from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house,

To the land which I will show you;

Promise One
2 And [a] I will make you a great nation,

Promise Two
And I will bless you [abundantly],

Promise Three
And make your name great (exalted, distinguished);

Promise Four
And you shall be a blessing [a source of great good to others];

Promise Five
3 And I will bless (do good for, benefit) those who bless you,

Promise Six
And I will curse [that is, subject to My wrath and judgment] the one who curses (despises, dishonors, has contempt for) you.

Promise Seven

And in you all the families (nations) of the earth will be blessed.”

Abram at 75

4 So Abram departed [in faithful obedience] as the Lord had directed him; and Lot [his nephew] left with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran.

5 Abram took Sarai his wife (age 66) and Lot his nephew, and all their possessions which they had acquired, and the people (servants) which they had acquired in Haran, and they set out to go to the land of Canaan. When they came to the land of Canaan,

6 Abram passed through the land as far as the site of Shechem, to the [great] terebinth (oak) tree of Moreh.

Now the [b] Canaanites were in the land at that time.

7 Then the Lord appearedto Abram and said,
“I will give this land to your descendants.”

So Abram built an altar (at Sheckem at the great oak tree of Moreh)
there to [honor]

the Lord who had appeared to him.
8 Then he moved on from there

Between the House of God and Heap of Ruins

to the mountain on the east of Bethel (house of God), and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai (heap of ruins) on the east;

and there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord

[in worship through prayer, praise, and thanksgiving].

9 Then Abram journeyed on, continuing toward the Negev (the South country of Judah).

10 Now there was a famine in the land; and Abram went down intoEgypt to live temporarily, for the famine in the land was oppressive and severe.

11 And when he was about to enter Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife,

“Listen: I know that you are [c] a beautiful woman; 12 so when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife’; and they will kill me [to acquire you], but they will let you live.

13 Please tell them that you are [d] my sister... so that things will go well for me for your sake, and my life will be spared because of you.”

14 And when Abram entered Egypt, the Egyptians saw that Sarai was very beautiful.

15 Pharaoh’s princes (officials) also saw her and praised her to Pharaoh; and the woman was taken [for the purpose of marriage] into Pharaoh’s house (harem).

16 Therefore Pharaoh treated Abram well for her sake; he acquired sheep, oxen, male and female donkeys, male and female servants, and camels.

17 But the Lord punished Pharaoh and his household with severe plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife.

18 Then Pharaoh called Abram and said, “What is this that you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife?

19 Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her as my wife? Now then, here is your wife; take her and go!”

20 So Pharaoh told his men concerning him; and they escorted him on his way, with his wife and all that he had.

Commentary

Your Question
Why in Genesis does Abraham and his wife keep going into kingdoms and saying they are just brother and sister?   Zeb 11/8/16

Abraham was called by God to become the father of His Holy People Israel. He did this by Agreements He made with Abraham. His intention was to have a people for His name that would have an eternal relatonship with Him. The Trinity of God is Love because God is love and He needed to extend the object of His love so He made man in His image. Man fell but God's love or him never failed. (The word "Man" is inclusive of all mankind; ie., men and women, mankind and womankind).

Man had to be given the free choice to love Him back but that did not change His eternal love for His created family. Man fell pray to the serpent's cleverness who manipulated Adma and Eve into thinking God's command not to eat from one tree He created, The Tree of Knowlege of Good and Evil.

God said they would die if they disobeyed this one little demand among the thousands of blessings, trees, produce and great provision He created for them to live in free of labor and filled with the presence of His love.

So for the next era of generation from Adam to Noah there was a progression of children, Cain and Abel on through to Enoch,  Methusela, Lamech and Noah. (10 generations Genesis 5)

Father Adam actually lived almost to the days of Noah's flood so that he saw most of those ten generations.  Then the earth was destroyed by a global flood and Noah began where Adam and Eve left off by his 3 sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth to create a people for His name. Now man was fallen and corrupt by the serpent's deception of Eve and Adam and Eve's disobedience. So, God created a covenant with Noah (the rainbow) to assure them he would not destroy the earth by flood ever again.

So from the sons of Shem came 10 genrations to the birth of Abram. By that time another set of fallen humanity had evolved through the sons of Ham and Japheth. God was preparing through Abram's seed to create then next event of the Patriarchs of the Hebrew people.  This would lead to the advent of Joseph and benjamin the first and the last of the sons of Jacob, who both shared the same mother Rachel, Then through a series of events came 400 years in Egypt, the miracle preservation of Moses and 80 years later the release from slavery and Egypt of a nation of people destined to inherit the promised land establiished by the Patriarchs 440 years earliier.

So in the days of Abraham God gave him power to conquor the inhabitants of the land God promised to him. After defeating the enemies of God, Melchizzadek the High Priest and King of Salem brought bread and wine and Abraham dd war nomore. This advent of peace meanth that God would protect and battle for Abraham and Sarah, nomatter what the situation. Abraham was suspicious of everyone and knew that if he was killed Sarah would not survive and God's plan for a nation that would be a blessing to all the nations of the earth would perish. So Abrraham to protect himself and the promise of God took it upon himself to insure a future.

The first threat came from Pharoah's request to have the 65 year old "sister" of Abram, Sarai become a part of his 'harem'. God intervened and told Pharoah he could not have Sarai because she was married to Abram. So he dealt with Pharoah and Pharoah came to Abram and said, "Why did you decive me and compromise me with your God?"

Abram got his sister/wife Sarai back, plus slaves, livestock and treasures. Abraham points out that Sarai is the daughter of his father but from a different mother. So, in his mind, he was protecting the future of a promised people and a covenant with God. He no longer did war so he offered Sarah in place o taking up arms with Egypt.

The second threat came from King Abimalech of Gerar of the Negev. Abraham convinces himself that he needs to protect God's covenant and his life and the life of Sarah and leave the rest up to God. So he aske Sarah to go along with him and say that she is his "sister"! She goes along with him and, again, God intervenes. This time through a series of supernatural events that included an encounter with God by Abimalech, Sarah was returned to Abraham from a terrified king who met God. He blessed Abraham

So why did Abraham do this?

1) He was not Adam - He was a man whose faith counted as righteousness but still bound by the same fallen condition and sin of Adam + 20 generations of people who did not know God personally like Abram.

2) Though a man of faith, Abraham had been an undefeated warrior, and for lack of military tact reacted in despration to a circumstance he was ill- equipped to deal with.

3) The situaton with Pharoah, God directly intervened and for all he knew, was surprised that somehow Pharoah figured out that Abram and Sarai were married. There were no 'laws' of marriage in those days... but God made it clear that Pharoah's desire for Sarai was unacceptable.

4) With Pharoah Sarai was 64-65 yeas old and Abram was 75 years old. Somehow grandmom was still so beautiful that Pharoah wanted her for his harem. 25 years later Sarah was 90 years old and Abraham was 99 years old. On top of that Sarah may have been pregnant with Isaac when they faced off with King Abimalech, because Isaac was born when Sarah was 91 and Abraham was 100 years old. So at 90 years old she was still so beautiful that the King wanted her for his harem!

It is the failing of Abram/Abraham and Sarai/Sarah to understand the eternal scope of God's covenant promise so they reacted to their situation without 'violence' and not knowing what to do relied on their own intellect to 'handle' both situations 25 years apart from eachother. But The Lord did not hold it to their charge but to the natural appetite of those that had the power to separate and kill them before God could fulfill His promises to them. The enemy is always trying to distract God's family by twisting the situation n such a way we try to solve things ourself instead of trusting the Lord, His promises and the great love he has for those He covenants with.

5) How do we see Jesus in all of this? It is during their lives that Abraham meets King and High Priest Melchizzadek (perhaps an OT appearnce of 'the Word of God') alone, bringing Abraham bread and wine (the law of first mention for Communion as seen in the upper room with Jesus!

6) Then after that there were the three angels for whom Abraham provided bread, wine and meat in addition to supplies. 2 of the angels leave for Sodom and the other Angel (again a type or forshadow of Christ - and perhaps was another OT appearance of Jesus) is negotiated with by Abraham to 'save' Sodom. Are there enough righteous to make it worth saving? When the Angel said no, then Abraham interceded for His nephew Lot and his family to be delivered from Sodom before the fire fell.

7) What do we learn about the nature and character of God here? Abraham becomes the friend of God and they become "blood brothers" by virtue of a covenant that God outlines in Chapter 12. So in effect Abraham grows in his relationship with God and God makes him victorious over all the power of the enemy. Then, after Communion with Him in the person of Melchizzadek, Abraham gves Melchizzadek a tenth of all the spoils of war and does war no more. Now he enters another covenant when the three angels come and tell Abraham that Sarah will give birth at 91 years old! Sarah laughs but God fulfills his promise and protects her through the decision of Abraham to try and help God. Before the Covenant of a Communion meal God delivers Abraham from a half truth and after the Communion 25 years later He still delivers Abraham and Sarah a scond time; from the exact same decision made by fear rather than by faith 25 years earlier!

Old Covenant or New - the only transformation that can happen is from God's end. He loves us first, cares and provides for us, protects us and gives us a peace that ony comes from Him. We see this in both Abraham and Sarah's life and then in the lives of those who are his direct descendants even if He has to show up Himself to insure the safety of His Covenant with us!

When Jesus said, "It is finished" it was. There's nothing else He can do to save you any more than that. If you believe, He promises you eternal life and that He will raise you up on the last day. When we respond to His invitation to sit down at His Table to dine with him and upon Him, He gives us daily our daily bread and drink with enough revelation or his life and love that it satisfies our hunger and thirst, igniting our heart with His fire and passion to get through each day!

In the face of Jesus we awaken to His reality for He is truth. When we dine with Him by dining upon and drinking in His provison of Himself, it is to lead us into His presence personally so that He might fill us and flood us with the glory of His presence! Commuunion = Christ in you the hope of glory! Alleluia!

The Greater Glory of the New Covenant
(Ratified by the same meal that Melichizzadek brought to Abraham, that God provided to the 73 on Mount Sainai (Exodus 24) and by Jesus at the Last Supper or First Communon. Jesus said (John 6) if you eat my flesh and drink my blood you have eternal life and i will raise ou up in the last day!)

2 Corinthians 3:7-18

7 Now if the ministry that brought death,
which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory,
so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, transitory though it was,

8 will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious?

9 If the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious,
how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness!

10 For what was glorious has no glory now
in comparison with the surpassing glory.

11 And if what was transitory came with glory,
how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!

12 Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold.

13 We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. (The glory faded after his encounter with God)

14 But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read.

It has not been removed,
because only in Christ is it taken away!

15 Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts.
16 But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory (as in a mirror or glass),

are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory,

(from glory to glory to glory to glory)

which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

"Give us calendar day by calendar day our daily Communion Bread of your flesh & Wine of your blood!"

Thanks be to God for His eternally amazing gift of Himself every day!

Cosmosian Christian Faith From the CommunionFire

Picture
CommunionFire Word-Smithing: Cosmosian
pronounced: kaus-moh'-zian

The supernatural realm of unseen cosmos micro and macro - only accessed through ongoing true scientific theory and faith that is Communion-centric.

It is the power released in essence and resident in the bread and wine that has been blessed by Jesus Christ. By grace through faith of those who believe in their heart and confess their faith through conversion, conversation and tangible expressions of worship and missions of mercy, empowered by Holy Spirit baptism by Jesus Christ, can see and hear spiritually.

Science has been talking about parallel dimensions, parallel universe structuring and string theory upheld by the basics of Newton, Einstein and others. The bending of time or flat universes perceives that flt may not be flat but slightly bent as talked about through Steven Hawking and
Michio Kaku

Occasionally my rant will include preaching that says "Cosmosian Theology" a kind of String theory, parallel Universe concept creating a need for cosmic theology.

What does this entail?

How about what happened between Genesis 1:1a and Genesis 1:b
Could that be the Ice Age or "Ice Epic"? before the Flood Age of Noah?

What about an antidaluvian people group?

PreAdamic race?

Come on don't tell me you haven't heard of these or how about...

Job and the ultimate barriers of time and space being broken through by level of vision that pierced through to see revelation of the first and second coming of Jesus in Job 19.

Rant: Jesus is Very Pro-Supernatural
So are the Creeds... In the name of The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit... "I Believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth..."

What about the OT appearances of the 4th man or the Angel of theLord?

These are types and shadows of Jesus?

Or were thay actual appearances of Christ, the Word of God taking on the appearance of a man or Angel capital "A" ?

King and High Priest Melchizzadek?

The Angel and other two angels of Abraham to negotiate for the the judgement on Sodom?

What about Heaven's intervention with a Ram from God in place of Isaac, the type of Christ or the ladder of Jacob, which like Jesus revealed angels ascendng nd descending into the vestibule of heaven?

What about the 70 plus Moses, Joshua and Abner who went halfway up Sinai before the Law was given in Exodus 24 where they found themselves on a field of lapis lazuli - stone so clear blue they thought they were standing on the sky as they ate and drank with God?

There are so many episodes in the OT pointing to Jesus that we are working on another book to deal with this phenomenon.

Then what about Gospel fulfilment of the times and seasons of Jewish culture and law in the life of Jesus?

Mary, His Mother becomin Queen of heaven by Jewish culture and history? Or did you know abut that one? What about the early Church that had no New Testament Canon of Scripture for the first 400 years of the Chuurch? How did they possibly get along without aNew Testament? Ever hear off Jesus, the Word made Flesh who then sent His Holy Spirit to confirm the reality of His presence accessed through the bread and wine of Communion that Jesus called His flesh and Blood? Is Commnion just a symbolic act? Is it just a Memorial?Or is it something powerfilled from heaven, full of grace and truth like Holy Virgin Mother Mary Queen of Heaven and John's declaration as Jesus approached him for baptism, "Behold the Lamb of God Who Takes Awaythe Sins of the World!"

The Seven Solas that have emerged as a consequence of the Reformation and ensuing adjustments among 40,000 non-catholic (Western or Eastern) Schismatic denominations.

Sola scriptura ("by Scripture alone")

Sola fide ("by faith alone")

Solus Christus or Solo Christo
("Christ alone" or "through Christ alone")

Soli Deo gloria ("glory to God alone")

Sola Gratia, or ("only Grace")

Sola Ecclesia ("the Church alone")

Sola Caritas ("Charitable-love alone")
Evangelical Alliance

The Cambridge Declaration of the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals

The Protestant Reformation of the 16th century changed Christianity forever.

Roused to action by the corruption and abuses they saw in the Roman Catholic church of the time, visionary pastors and leaders like Martin Luther and John Calvin spearheaded a movement that transformed Christianity and eventually led to the emergence of the Protestant denominations that exist today.

The Reformers were guided by the conviction that the church of their day had drifted away from the essential, original teachings of Christianity, especially in regard to what it was teaching about salvation—how people can be forgiven of sin through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and receive eternal life with God. The Reformation sought to re-orient Christianity on the original message of Jesus and the early church.
The Five Solas are five Latin phrases (or slogans) that emerged during the Reformation to summarize the Reformers’ theological convictions about the essentials of Christianity.
The Five Solas are:
  1. Sola Scriptura (“Scripture alone”): The Bible alone is our highest authority.
  2. Sola Fide (“faith alone”): We are saved through faith alone in Jesus Christ.
  3. Sola Gratia (“grace alone”): We are saved by the grace of God alone.
  4. Solus Christus (“Christ alone”): Jesus Christ alone is our Lord, Savior, and King.
  5. Soli Deo Gloria (“to the glory of God alone”): We live for the glory of God alone.

Let’s have a brief look at each of these five points.

During the Protestant Reformation, the Reformers invented five Latin solas (sola means only), that summarized their protestant belief system about getting "saved".  They are :

Sola fide ("by faith alone")
Sola scriptura ("by Scripture alone")
Sola gratia ("by grace alone")
Solus Christus or Solo Christo ("Christ alone")
Soli Deo gloria ("glory to God alone")

What is a chiasm?... or...

CHIASTIC STRUCTURING?

An Introduction

Chiastic structures in: Matthew 2 Corinthians Philemon

1) WHAT IS CHIASTIC STRUCTURING?

Chiasmus (from the Greek letter Chi: X), or chiastic structuring is a literary device often used by Old Testament and New Testament writers. They use it to build up to their main point and then back off from it in the reverse order (so that the parts 'cross over' like the members of the letter Chi - X).

2) CRITERIA FOR A CHIASM.
Three criteria that will enable one to know that a chiasm has been found are:

1) Parallel members (A & A', B & B', etc.) will have in common subject matter, significant vocabulary, and/or phrases.

2) At least in Paul's letters the centre will be tightly parallel, phrase for phrase. (In long chiasms, say 40-plus verses in Paul, the balancing members at the extremities [like A & A'] may consist of two or three verses each.)
3) The centre will be the main point. (Very often the main point will have already been seen to be the main point by earlier commentators.)
(Back)

3) HOW TO DETECT CHIASMS.

1) The first step is often to notice two separated passages on the same subject or which use the same infrequently-occurring words, or words which are significant for the author's argument but which do not otherwise occur with frequency in the given section (e.g., such words might be 'God', 'Father', 'Christ', etc.).

2) The intervening material between the two passages is then scrutinized for parallel vocabulary and/or ideas which match each other step-by-step until a centre is reached. Generally the closer one comes to the centre the more precise the parallelism becomes, until it is frequently a phrase-for-phrase balancing.

3) At other times one may begin with a single verse which is itself a chiasm. Having established that there is a centre, one then extends the limits until no more effective parallelism of subject and/or vocabulary is to be found.

4) Occasionally balancing members are antitheses (e.g., A: The good live; A': The wicked die).

5) Sometimes (as in 1 Corinthians and Galatians) the end of one chiasm overlaps with the beginning of the next, indicating either (1) they are a literary unity and both came into fixed form at the same time, or (2) just possibly the overlapping verses are bridge passages written to join chiasms, one or both of which may have existed earlier and both were extended at each end so as to overlap (i.e., the original chiastic units would have been shorter than the form in which we have them now).

(Back)

4) SIGNIFICANCE OF DETECTED CHIASTIC STRUCTURES (WITH EXAMPLES)

Detected chiastic structuring can be of help to the textual critic, the source critic and the exegete in one or more of the following ways. (OX = Overall Chiasm; 1st 2o = First secondary chiasm, etc.)

Note: All chiasms indicated below are given in full under the heading of the given writing.

(a) It can help one to see the whole argument and its main point.
Chiastic unit Centre (i.e., main point)
        1 Corinthians:
            OX: 1.1-8.6a x 8.6b-16.24
                    For us:
                       One God, the Father, ...
                       One Lord, Jesus Christ, ...
But not in all is this knowledge
            1st 2o: 1.1-3.11a x 3.11b-6.12
                    Only possible foundation: Jesus Christ
            3o: 1.1-24 x 1.24-32
To those who are called, Jews and Greeks:
Christ, God's Power and God's Wisdom
            3o: 4.1-15b x 4.16-6.11
I begat you in Christ: thus be imitators of me.
            2nd 2o: 6.1-8.6a x 8.6b-10.33
                    Apparently structured on Decalogue
                    (10th - 1st : 1st - 10th commandments)
            3rd 2o: 10.23-13.7 x 13.8-14.40
                    Love bears/hopes/believes/endures:
                    all else shall cease.
            4th 2
o: 14.31-15.45a x 15.45b -16.24
The First Man Adam became a living soul :
The Last Man a life-making Spirit

(b) If an entire writing can be shown to be chiastic overall, then it is more likely to be a literary unity (as opposed to a composite work).

1 Corinthians - see above, but also see f) and g) below.
Philippians 1.1-2.24a x 2.24b-4.23 (also Galatians, Philemon, Jude, 2 Peter,
1-2-3 John)
(But William Hollidays' arguments for the overall chiastic structure of Jeremiah may be a salutary warning that a final overall chiasm may not necessarily indicate an original unity or unitary origin.)

(c) One side of a chiasm may shed light on the meaning of the other side or even the meaning of the centre when either is in doubt.

Romans 1.18-2.1b x 2.4b-8 - centre: the judging one (ὁ κρίνων). The scope of this chiasm, which
includes the clearly Gentile material of 1.19ff., calls into question whether the judging one is only the Jew, as, e.g., E. Käsemann and others maintain.

(d) One side of a chiasm may help to settle, or at least make more probable, a doubtful textual
 reading on the other side.
1 Cor. 2.1-4a x 2.4b-8: 'Mystery' (μυστήριον) in 2.7 argues for 'mystery' in 2.1d (with J. Héring, H. Conzelmann, UBGNT 3rd ed., Nestle-Aland NTG 26th and 27th edd. and the NRSV), not 'testimony' (μαρτύριον)
(as in RSV, NEB, BFBSGNT 2nd ed. and Nestle-Aland NTG 25th ed.).

(e) If only the main body of a writing is chiastic, then the non-chiastic portions may have a different (quite possibly later) origin by the same or another hand.

Col. 1.12-2.6a x 2.6b-3.17: These apparent limits make 1.1-11 and 3.18-4.18 of
   questionable origin.
Rom.1.1-8.17 x 8.18-15.33+16.25-27: (1) This reinforces the case for taking Rom.
16.1-24 as not being part of the original letter. (2) Since the doxology of
16.25-27, widely deemed to be of Marcionite origin, is chiastic against 1.1-6,
this calls into question the extent to which 1.1-6 represents what Paul himself
    wrote.
2 Cor.: Gunther Bornkamm's breakdown of 2 Corinthians
    1.23-5.1a x 5.1b-7.16 (excluding 6.14-7.1) 2.14-7.4 (excluding 6.14-7.1)
   8.1-22a x 8.22b-9.15 8 and 9 as separate letters

10.1-11.31a x 11.31b-13.10 (omit 13.11-13) 10-13

(f) A chiasm which is complete when a portion within one side or at the centre is omitted may indicate that the non-included portion is a later interpolation.

2 Cor.1.23-5.1a x 5.1b-7.16 (excluding 6.14-7.1) confirms that 6.14-7.1 is an
interpolation, a conclusion readily reached on other grounds.
1 Cor 9.21-27+10.23-26 x 10.26-11.1
1 Cor. 9.8-10.7 x 10.21-11.15 (incomplete at centre)
These two chiasms appear to indicate that at least 10.8-20 and possibly 10.1-22 (as argued by Héring, J. Weiss, Goguel, W. Schmithals, etc.) is an interpolation. But note that the materials in question include the following chiasms: 1 Cor 10.6-9a x 9b-11and also 10.15-22a x 10.22b-11.2; in the Overall Chiasm: 10.1-13 corresponds to 7.1-6 and 10.14-32 to 6.13-20. Thus perhaps the interpolation was by Paul himself, imperfectly worked in.
Taking the separation of materials concerned with the oral reports from those dealing with the Corinthians' written questions (as analysed by J. C. Hurd, Jr, The Origin of I Corinthians) along with the discerned chiasms (see (a)above), it seems likely that Paul had 1 Cor. 6.12-16.24 roughed out (with 1 Cor 13 as the intended centre) before he received the oral reports which caused him to add 12.1-6.11 plus 11.17-34 (the oral report materials).

(g) Two halves of a chiasm separated by materials in between may sometimes indicate that the entire chiasm existed as a unit prior to the present writing, being intentionally split by the writer of the present work.

Matt. 5.1-7.29 x 22.15-24.35: That the Sermon on the Mount antedates the composition of Matthew has long since been argued by Jean Héring. 'Dieu, Moïse, et les anciens', Révue d'histoire et de philosophie religieuses(Strasbourg, 1941), p. 201, n. 15. We would suggest that the whole unit was initially developed from the short Beatitudes and Woes as found in Luke 6.2-26m to form a kind of Two Ways document (the Way of Life: Sermon on the Mount, Matt. 5-7, and the Way of Death: Woes section, Matt. 23) akin to the Two-Ways sections of the Epistle of Barnabas and the Didache.
(see Chiastic Structuring in the Sermon on the Mount).

(Incidentally, although Matthew contains many very lengthy complete chiasms, I have been unable to find a convincing overall chiasm.)

(h) Where one can demonstrate an overall chiasm and a continuous set of secondary chiasms (plus perhaps subsidiary levels, too), then this increases the likelihood that the writing was intended to be heard many times and that the author was carefully and seriously theologizing and not simply writing to a situation ad hoc and unsystematically.

1 Corinthians (see under (a) above)
Galatians (work of John Bligh, Galatians in Greek [University of Detroit Press,
Detroit, 1966] and Galatians:A Discussion of St Paul's Epistle [St Paul
    Publications, London, 1969])
   OX: 1.1-4.4c x 4.5a-6.18
       2o:   1.1-20a x 1.20b-3.4 (I)
              3.5-4.4 x 4.5-4.31 (II)
             5.1-21b x 5.21c-6.18 (III)
         3o:       1.1-4c x 1.5-1.12 (1)
                    1.6-20a x 1.20b-3.4 (2)
                   2.11-16b x 2.16c-3.4 (3)
                    3.5-18c x 3.18d-29 (4)
                    4.1-4 x 4.5-10 (5)
                    4.11-19 x 4.20-31 (6)
                    5.1-7b x 5.8-13 (7)
                    5.13b-21b x 5.21c-6.2 (8)
                    5.22-6.8a x 6.8b-18 (9)

(Bligh also finds a continuous quartan series, with the chiasms beginning to scatter at the quintan level. Up through at least the tertiary level his chiasms are soundly based by our criteria.)

The completely balanced structure of Galatians (overall chiasm, three secondaries and nine tertiaries) reinforces the idea that 1 Corinthians, with its four rather than three secondaries, was written in two stages, as indicated in(f)
 above.

John 2
The Wedding at Cana

1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.

3 When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.”

4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.”

5 His mother said to the servants,

“Do whatever He tells you.”

Hebrews 3
The Son Was Faithful

Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,

2 who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house. 3 For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house. 4 For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God. 5 And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward,

6 but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.

You Become Faithful

7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says:

“Today, if you will hear His voice,

8 Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,
In the day of trial in the wilderness,

9 Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me,
And saw My works forty years.
10 Therefore I was angry with that generation,
And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart,
And they have not known My ways.’
11 So I swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest.’”[b]
12 Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;

13 but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, 15 while it is said:

“Today, if you will hear His voice,

Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”

Failure of the Wilderness Wanderers

16 For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses? 17 Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? 19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
Hebrews 12:24-29
Blood of Jesus Speaks

24 and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks of better things than the blood of Abel

25 See that you do not refuse the one who is speaking; for if they did not escape when they refused the one who warned them on earth, how much less will we escape if we reject the one who warns from heaven!

26 At that time his voice shook the earth; but now he has promised, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heaven.”

27 This phrase, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of what is shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.

28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us give thanks, by which we offer to God an acceptable worship with reverence and awe;

29 for indeed our God is a consuming fire.

Way of Sin and Death

LSD The
Law reveals Sin
Sin produces
Death

Romans 8:2
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the Law of Sin and of Death.

1 Corinthans 15:56
55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”  56 Now the sting of death is sin: and the power of sin is the law.

All have sinned and come short of God's Glory

None is righteous, No, No one

If any says thay have no sin they lie and do not the truth

If any says they have no sin they deceive themselves and the truth is not in them

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said,

"Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world."

Repent and believe

Be Born of the water and of the Spirit
John 3:5

For God loved YOU so much that He gave His Only begotten Son so that if you believe you have eternal life

Way of Eternal Life

John 8:36
Those set free by Jesus Christ are free indeed

Say This
Believe This...

He who knew no sin was made to be sin for me that I might become righteous

I am the righteousness
of God in Christ

If that same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in me, He quickens my mortal body

We are partakers of His great and precious promises and are thereby partakers of His divine nature

How....

2 Corinthians 3:16-18
Whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18
Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

2 Corinthians 5:16-18
Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Now all these things are from God

Jesus is
the Bread of Life and
His Blood, The Wine

John 6:50-52, 53, 54-55, 56

This is the bread that comes down from heaven so that anyone may eat of it and not die.  I am the  living bread that came down from heaven.

If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever.  And this bread, which I will give for the life of the world, is My flesh.”

At this, the Jews began to argue among themselves, “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?”

So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I tell you,
unless you eat the flesh
and drink the blood
of the Son of Man,

you have no life in you.

Whoever eats My flesh
and drinks My blood
has eternal life, and
I will raise him up at the last day.

For My flesh is
real food, and
My blood is
real drink.
…

Whoever feeds on my flesh
and drinks my blood
abides in me,
and I in him.

Right side Up or Upside Down?

My life has been turned right side up since coming to daily dine with the Lord Jesus at His Table. In the eyes of most of my kind and loving brothers and sisters in Christ, however, it appears to them that my world of faith has turned upside down.

COMMNIONFIRE: When you Become Bold enough to Believe in the reality of the bread and wine and offer it to Jesus for His blessing, He takes it, blesses it, breaks it and gives it back to us as something transformed by His eternal power. Jesus calls Himself the bread of life and then says that if we eat the bread He blesses to become His glorified flesh, and if we drink the wine He blesses and it becomes His glorified blood, we partake of His eternal life with the promise that He will raise us up on the last day. He also said when we do this we are within Him and He is within us. "Christ in you the hope of glory!"

In Jesus, the vail of the law is torn away.. the Passover is replaced by the Eucharist...
and when you sit down with Jesus and say, "Lord I believe, help my unbelief", He does!

As a young believer, who asked Jesus to be my Savior on Superbowl Sunday 1971, my muster for daily witnessing, prayer and Bible study was relentless for the next 20 years.

Every day gave birth to another opportnity to share the Good news, pray for the lost and study to show myself approved of God, a workman that need not be ashamed. I was always ready to give an answer for the reason my faith. I lived in the types and shadows of the Old Testament, New Testament and the witness of all that went before me.

I had heros of faith, role models of faith and ministries that I paid attention to to stay in tune with what the Holy Spirit was saying to the churches. It was my way of orthodoxy or as one article called it, inadvertantly I cultivated my own form of orthopraxy!

I also learned early in the 1970s that there were enemies of the faith because of street witnessing and college campus open air evangelism, passing out tracts and Jesus Papers (a form of newspaper that had a counter-cultre feel. We did this in the evenings, twice a week, while working in factories to care for my young family and provide work for people we rescued from cults was a way of life. Our earliest and biggest warfare was with groups that had such cool, biblical names like:

The Children of God a fast growing christian cult that went global almost overnight from California beaches to colonies set up throughout the United States and various parts of the world. Others included The Way (Bible Institute); Jesus Saves; The Local Church, Greater Grace World Outreach and Jesus Only.

We tangled with these folks for years. They would even try to imitate us to gain new followers. The early church faced off with similar cults like the Judaisers, Arianism, he Knostcs and the like. The late Fr. Jack N. Sparks wrote our handbook called Mindbenders. We were always on the radar learning to identify the "new cult of the week" sprouting during the evangelical/charismatic revival and renewal poured out from heaven in the early 1970s that ran to the early 1980s.

After 45 years I am still fighting the good fight of faith but this morning, (thank you Jesus), the Lord showed me how there were precious truths that got buried under my pursuit to stay "New Testament". I'm not sure how it happened, but it did. The "we" became the me.

When I was left and alone after almost 2 years of stoking the revival fires of the 70's, I burned out. I lost my family, my ministry, and my personal sense of mission.

As an act of total surrender to the failures of my own efforts for the Lord, I spent the next 20 years trying to be succesful as a full commission salesman. I lost no love for Jesus, but I was living in the wilderness of my sojourn caring for the demands of a temporal life. In my heart was an anchor called Matthew 6:33.

I tried my own business and my goodness was taken advantage of until I came to the end of that track for 6 years. Then I was on the road selling various forms of media, marketing and advertising. Monday through Friday blurred into one day to me. I worked hard and became independent enough to pay my bills but never quite got passed living paycheck to paycheck. I became a top ten guy in an international company and even won the prestigious "Professional of the Year" at one point! More good effort but in my own strength.

I wasn't getting younger and the effects of working so hard and being on the road 5 days a week  for 14 years was diminishing my vision and aspiration. Trying again in my own strength to maintain a commitment to professional excellence and sense of mission, at least on a personal level, began to give way and I became less and less able to maintain a winning attitude. I had tried to climb the corporate ladders but each ladder had its own set of built in flaws and I was exhausted.

Then in 2012 something remarkable happened that stirred all those years into a sense of destiny and eternal purpose. My wife and I made a decision to have the bread and wine of Communion as a husband and wife, at home, as often as we could and daily if possible. I was finished and then I found out Jesus wasn't. But He was about to let me in on a new understanding of 3 words He declared on the Cross...

This was a Campus Crusader who wanted Early Church authenticity - I was called into the ministry under the street preaching of this wonderful Man of God in Berkeley, CA in 1971. He was a founder of God's Love household for Street Christians, the publisher of the Jesus People's Movement called "Right On" and through an amazing series of transformations throughout his ministry He was a founder of The University of Orthodox Theology (now called St. Athanasius Academy of Orthodox Theology) and oversaw the creation of The Orthodox Study Bible before the Lord moved him to his new address in heaven. Thanks Fr. Jack N. Sparks, Ph.D The Witness of Jack and his estimed Associates from Grace Haven Farms, New Covenant Apostolic Order, The Evangelical Orthodox Churches and theis eventual assimilation into the Antiochian Orthodox Church of America is truely one of the Great Church Histories of the 20th and 21st Century.

Luke 3:16 "He will baptize you with the Holy Ghost and fire."  Ask Jesus to baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire today.
Another significant influence in my life is the life and ministry of Winkey Pratney. His lifelong commitment to the study and application of Revival as both an apologist and polemicist raised the bar for me and he accomplished what I only dreamed - to Produce the Revival Study Bible. He has also been an intrinsic Man of God from the days of the Jesus People Movement and a part of my experience as a visiting teacher at Christ for the Nations in Dallas in 1975 and one of the principles in Y.W.A.M. Youth With A Mission that has had a direct impact on my sister, daughters, nephews and grandchildren. Thanks Brother Winkey for the legacy you have deposited into my life and the life of so many others.
